For consumers, it is an opportunity to create edible CBD at home. All you need is high-quality cannabidiol and your imagination. Before we proceed with the list of recipes, here are a few tips on baking or cooking with CBD oil:
- Choose a full-spectrum product with full third-party testing from a reputable brand.
- Begin with a small amount of CBD and work your way up.
- Store the cannabinoid in a cool, dry place. Cannabinoids are naturally sensitive to light and heat — overexposure to either will result in a degradation in quality and potency.
- Bear in mind that CBD works best in recipes with fat in them. Examples include ingredients such as butter or oil.
- Creating cannabidiol drinks is as easy as adding a few drops to your preferred beverage!

You need approximately 10 grams of ground CBD-rich flower and a cup of butter.
Decarboxylate the Herb
Step one involves ‘decarbing’ the flower. In its ‘raw’ form, your cannabis or hemp contains acidic cannabinoids such as THCA and CBDA. It only converts into the more psychoactive compounds like THC and CBD when exposed to heat. You automatically decarboxylate your herb when you smoke or vaporize it. However, you need to go through a unique process to get your edible CBD ready.
Preheat your oven to 245 degrees Fahrenheit. Place your flower on parchment paper on a tray. Once the oven has heated up, place your CBD-rich herb inside for 30-40 minutes. Every 10 minutes, shake the tray to ensure the entire surface area of the flower is exposed. It is probably best to grind the product before this step, though you can do it afterward.
When your herb is decarbed, follow these steps:
- Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add water to keep the temperature of the butter in check.
- Add the herb to the melted butter and keep the mixture exposed at temperatures between 160 and 200 degrees.
- Stir the mixture occasionally, and leave it on medium heat for 2-3 hours.
- Place a funnel on top of a glass mason jar and line with cheesecloth.
- Pour the cooled mixture over the funnel and let it strain. Try not to squeeze the cloth, or else you could allow unpleasant-tasting plant material through.
- Put the jar of cannabutter into the fridge. Keep it stored there until you need it for a recipe.
What About CBD Oil?
You can replace CBD-rich plant matter with CBD oil. It is even easier to make than cannabutter as it doesn’t involve straining! It is also the best option when creating CBD oil edibles. Use two cups of unsalted butter, 10 grams of CBD oil, and four cups of filtered water.
- Cut the butter into small pieces.
- Put it into a saucepan over low heat.
- As it melts, add the CBD oil and water. Continue cooking on low heat for 3-4 hours, and stir with a metal spoon every 30 minutes.
- The mixture will gradually thicken as the water boils off.
- When it seems dense, remove the saucepan from the heat.
- Once it cools, pour it into an airtight container. Put it in the fridge for at least two hours.
The thing here is that CBD oil from a bottle is already decarbed. The above method may improve the taste of a recipe, but it isn’t strictly necessary. You can merely add CBD oil to any food or drink. Make sure you don’t expose the oil to a temperature of over 325 degrees, however.
