Best CBD Creams | Topicals Reviewed

There are few CBD products available on the market today that are as popular or ubiquitous as CBD cream. While there are many types, from CBD ointments to CBD lotions, it is the soothing, silky smooth type known as CBD creams that people especially love.

But what are you supposed to do if you are new to the world of CBD creams? How are you supposed to cope with the wide variety of choices and different options available? What do you need to know to be able to find some CBD oil of your very own?

What Is CBD Cream?

CBD cream is easily the most popular CBD topical out there. It combines all the valuable benefits of CBD oil, but with the convenience and smoothness of a silky feel cream.

CBD cream is basically the smoothest, most abundant type of CBD topicals, making for an enjoyable experience. Most CBD topicals are incredibly useful, focusing on ease of use rather than any kind of actual enjoyment.

Meanwhile, CBD creams are all about providing as smooth and accessible an experience as possible. The primary difference between CBD cream and other CBD topicals is that CBD creams have less water content. This allows it to be absorbed into the skin more easily. The higher the oil content, the creamier it feels. And more efficiently, the skin can pull the CBD through the skin osmotically.

Lotions and Creams

Other types of CBD topicals can include things commonly marketed as lotions. The primary difference is, once again, the water content, as well as a difference in what they are designed for.

Most of the time, CBD lotions are made to moisturize the skin with ingredients like shea butter or aloe vera. The idea behind these ingredients is that they help restore the skin and keep it looking lustrous. But they also give you a small dose of CBD.

However, CBD creams can often contain the same ingredients as CBD lotions. It is really is just the water content and the intended use that differs between the two.

Balms and Salves

CBD balms and salves look and smell very similar to other CBD topicals and are often used interchangeably. However, the primary reason for these types of products is that they are designed to help heal wounds or fix the skin after tearing.

These types of CBD topicals will often contain beeswax and other essentials oils mixed in with the CBD. They often have a lower water content too.

As they are designed to be rubbed onto a wound, they are thick, viscous and slightly tacky in feel. You generally only use these for wound treatment. But some people like to use them as a regular CBD oil treatment because they prefer the thicker texture.

Oils: How Are They Used?

CBD oils can be utilized as a CBD topical, only with a tad more difficulty. Usually, CBD oils are designed to be taken orally, sublingually, or inserted into food. However, if you are persistent and don’t mind a bit of dripping, you can rub the oil onto your skin.

Unfortunately, without the inclusion of an aggregate substance like beeswax or any other fatty material, it will have a hard time trying to get it to stick to the affected area. If you are intent on doing it, then vigorously massaging it into the skin is probably your best bet.

How to Use CBD Cream

The first thing to remember about using CBD cream is to make sure you speak to your doctor first.

Though many people might say otherwise, you should avoid starting any kind of new medication without first consulting a medical professional, especially if you have any sort of prior condition.

Other than that, using CBD cream is as simple as rubbing it onto the affected area and applying it liberally. However, if you want some step by step instructions, then look no further.

Prepare the Application Area

Before applying any kind of CBD topical, make sure you get the application area completely ready. First, remove any and all clothing from the skin. You don’t want to stain your clothes with your CBD cream.

For best results, make sure to clean the area thoroughly, especially if it is wound treatment you are after. Wash the area with water and soap, and then make sure to dry it extremely carefully. If you leave water on the affected area, you might find your cream is less productive thanks to dilution.

Apply the Topical

Take the right amount of cream out of its container using your fingers and then apply it to the area. Make sure that you massage the cream into your skin using a circular motion. This helps encourage it to both stick to the surface and be more easily absorbed.

If you want to apply more, make sure that the previous amount you have already used has been fully absorbed before you do so.

Enjoy the Effects

In comparison to taking CBD oil orally, you will likely find that your CBD topical takes effect incredibly quickly. If you are finding that it doesn’t have sufficient effect, you might want to continue to apply your topical to the surrounding area, to help maximize its effect radius.

You might find that the surrounding skin starts to dry or flake. If this happens make sure you apply copious amounts of the topical to that area as well.

Other than that, you can sit back and enjoy the effects!

Does CBD Cream Work?

CBD cream works in the same way that taking CBD oil does. The difference is that you can apply it to a specific area directly, and do so much faster.

CBD itself works incredibly well at helping reduce both pain and inflammation. This is thanks to CBD’s ability to interact with the endocannabinoid system.

Studies like this one by Bruni et al. for Molecules have shown that, after taking CBD, the body is able to effectively shut down the inflammation response. This helps to remove most of the uncomfortable, painful swelling that was previously there.

CBD works incredibly well to disable this response, far more effectively than other cannabis-infused lotions do. This is thanks to the lack of THC. CBD creams and CBD lotions alike have the capability to help treat injured or inflamed areas. This is simply because they are the same as CBD oil, only taken in a different way. All CBD topicals are just a convenient and straightforward method of getting the CBD in your system without difficulty.

How Are Topicals Similar or Different from Other CBD Products?

What is it that makes CBD topicals so different from other types of CBD products? Since they are just CBD oil and a useful fatty aggregate, what makes them so significantly different?

The most obvious difference is the different methods of use. CBD topicals are applied to the skin, rather than taken orally or sublingually.

CBD topicals do not, inherently, interact with the bloodstream or the internal workings of the body. Instead, they sit on the skin and allow their CBD to be absorbed into the body through osmotic action.

Alongside the typical effects of CBD, CBD topicals are able to help moisturize the skin and provide temporary, topical relief from all types of ailments.

Approximate Dosage

While most CBD varieties tend to offer exact dosages, CBD topicals tend not to be so helpful. While there will always be a guide for how much CBD to administer, CBD topicals are more about using enough to coat the area and seeing how it helps.

This makes CBD topicals a bit confusing to use. But as long as you are coating the area liberally with your topical, you will probably be fine.

Concentration Range

CBD topicals come in different concentrations. From the lower end with 300mg of CBD, all the way up to the massively higher end with around 1500mg to 2000mg.

Make sure you are paying attention to the size of the container, as well. Some unscrupulous retailers might say that their product contains a large amount of CBD. Especially when compared to other brands, but in actuality, they are bigger pots.

CBD topical products tend to be a little bit more expensive than other options. They require additional steps in their production to produce usable CBD creams and lotions.

Don’t expect to break the bank, but don’t expect low prices either. A good rule of thumb is to expect it cost about 1.3 times as much as your favorite brand of regular CBD oil.

Benefits of CBD Cream

The useful primary advantages of CBD cream, including helping to treat pain and inflammation. However, there are a number of other conditions and problems that CBD cream is able to manage effectively.

Pain & Arthritis

Treating pain and inflammation in the skin is a common reason to take CBD. But it is often not considered among the best topical anti-inflammatories. Anti-inflammatory cream carries with it all kinds of annoying side effects, so being able to take something completely minimal disadvantages is incredibly useful.

Various studies, like this one by Hammell et al. for the European Journal of Pain, have shown that CBD can significantly affect joint swelling with arthritis, making it an attractive option for those that develop this condition – especially older people.

Eczema is an incredibly unpleasant skin condition that is commonly treated using CBD creams, as it is able to target the irritated areas and help reduce their inflammation.

Make sure that, if you are getting CBD cream to treat this persistent condition, you don’t get one that contains all kinds of irritating, sweet-smelling ingredients. These additional herbs and spices might further irritate your sensitive skin.

Pros and cons of CBD Cream

  • Able to provide localized, direct relief
  • Incredibly inconspicuous, no one would know you were taking it
  • Very good for your skin
  • Useful for those that don’t enjoy smoking

  • Not as effective at being absorbed by the body when compared to other types of CBD
  • Only really useful as localized pain relief
  • The dosage is almost impossible to discover precisely
  • Pricier than other CBD options

Are CBD creams Safe?

A 2016 study found that the topical application of CBD had the potential to relieve pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. A 2017 study found that CBD might be a safe and useful treatment for OA joint pain.

One common thing that is frequently asked when people are considering trying new CBD treatments is whether or not CBD cream is actually safe. In various studies, such as this one by Kerstin Iffland and Franjo Grotenhermen for the Journal of Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, CBD topicals have been shown to be non-toxic and almost entirely without side effects.

So, if you are worried about your bodily health, you needn’t be. CBD creams are entirely safe.

CBD Cream for Your Skin

Before picking your new favorite brand of CBD cream, remember that the use of it isn’t just in its CBD content. CBD cream is also incredibly useful in improving your skin’s health. Studies have shown that CBD can enhance the elasticity and inner cell walls of your skin, as well as generally help treat redness and inflammation. They might be able to help regulate the oil content of your skin, as well as generally improve the way your skin feels.

    Sufficiently Cool

Using the Purekana one, the one that you mentioned at the top no 1. I think it is very, very good, will recommend go for it without looking here and there. There are endless number of CBD brands these days, it is only like getting confused if we keep on looking for something that could be better. This one is sufficiently cool.

    No harm

Great to read article. Cool tips, new information, and a lot of insight on CBD and its effect on arthritis and joint pain. In my conclusion, CBD can help, and so there is no harm trying it.

New way to help an old lady.

I am suffering reduced mobility because, as my orthopedic surgeon says, I have unique knees. Knees that very well cannot have knee replacement surgery. Only way to tell if I can have a replacement is to cut open the knee. Good chance they will have to close it up and leave the knee as it is. I am not rich so I want something that works well and lasts a long time. Which one of these creams would work the best? I wear knee braces which do a great job of stabilizing the knee but nothing for the pain.
